Consultants at Learning People Global, what are the most interesting reasons you have heard for why people want a #careerchange?

I'm always most inspired by the student that have experienced set backs career wise or taken a break. This could be redundancy, personal struggles or even breaks for raising children but the ambition and commitment to getting back into the industry is always something else. Getting back into a career or even starting a new one can be daunting but taking the first step is always the hardest. It's honestly a pleasure to be part of the start of that journey to help plan out their ambitions and sometimes just provide support to people taking such a brave step forward.

One of the most compelling reasons I’ve heard lately is the realization that the world is changing faster than ever before, especially with advancements in AI and automation. Many of my students are seeing first hand how their current roles may not be as secure or relevant in the next 5–10 years. It’s not just about being unhappy in their roles anymore, it’s about future-proofing their careers and staying ahead of the curve with a career in tech.

Great question! I’ve had the chance to speak with people from all walks of life, and some of the reasons for changing careers are really inspiring. Most days people say they have been managing projects for years without the title, and they were finally ready to be recognised and paid properly for it. Another wanted to move into an industry with more purpose, like healthcare, charity, education or sustainability. Some are simply looking for better work life balance to spend more time with their families Everyone’s reason is different, but the common thread is a desire for something more fulfilling and future-proof.

The best conversation I ever had was with a gentleman who'd been working on games for all his life, managing projects and helping develop those childhood games we all used to play (or at least I did). An absolutely fascinating man, and very kind. He was made redundant and couldn't get into roles anymore, despite his amazing CV and his experience. That's why he wanted to get qualified and change his career into PM. A conversation I still think about every now and then!

I find a lot of my students dream of having a better work life balance. A career that supports having a family. I feel very proud that we are able to offer a solution in this area. Helping more people to have the flexibility of working from home/hybrid and being able to spend more time with the people that matter the most FAMILY!
