New tech skills government funding pledge: what this says about in-demand skills of the future
The ever-growing global skills gap for workers is becoming increasingly evident with the adoption and prioritisation of AI within businesses and ongoing cyber-attacks on global brands.
This point is only further solidified by the UK Government’s recent commitment to investing in mentoring, funding access and skills development to spark tech innovation outside of the capital. The government claims this is an attempt to ‘supercharge tech growth in UK regions’ to drive economic growth and change.
Addressing these skills gaps is the key for making the most of AI opportunities, according to Accenture’s research which reports that generative AI could add £736 billion to the UK’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2038 if people are correctly trained. So, it should come as no surprise that 98% of UK companies report technology as the top lever for reinvention with 83% of those companies seeing gen AI as the main driver.

Earlier this year, the World Economic Forum reported that advancements in technologies -- particularly AI and information processing, robotics and automation -- are expected to be transformative to businesses globally.
